What is it about?
Affordable methods to treat and reuse household wastewater in rural areas for farming and landscaping. These methods don't need electricity and turn waste into fertilizer. The technologies include Compartmentalized Anaerobic Reactor (CAR) and Upfow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket (UASB) Reactor, are designed with local materials, and cover water storage to reduce evaporation in hot climates.

Why is it important?
It addresses the challenge of treating wastewater in rural areas, where access to conventional treatment facilities is limited. Sustainable management of wastewater helps mitigate the impacts of climate change by reducing pollution and conserving water resources.
Perspectives
Developing low-cost technologies that don't rely on electricity, especially in rural areas where conventional infrastructure may be lacking, not only tackles pollution but also promotes environmental sustainability by conserving water resources and reducing reliance on conventional energy sources. Furthermore, the reuse of treated wastewater for purposes like irrigation offers economic benefits and contributes to the resilience of communities in the face of water scarcity and climate change challenges.
