What is it about?

In March 2022, the first mental hygiene challenge encouraged community members to spend 10 minutes a day on mental hygiene activities for a month. The results showed that daily engagement in these activities supports mental well-being, highlighting the importance of mental hygiene for overall population mental health.

Why is it important?

Mental hygiene is important because it focuses on maintaining and improving mental well-being, much like physical hygiene keeps the body healthy. By engaging in regular mental hygiene practices, such as mindfulness, stress management, or positive thinking, individuals can better manage stress, improve emotional resilience, and prevent mental health issues from developing or worsening. Consistent mental hygiene can lead to improved mood, better coping skills, and a greater sense of overall well-being. In the long term, it can help reduce the risk of mental health disorders, support personal growth, and promote healthier communities.
