COGNITIVE APPROACH TO THE CONCEPTUAL CONTENT OF THE WORD "EAR" AS THE BODY ORGAN NAME IN TURKISH

What is it about?

The cognitive approach to language can be divided into two research areas, cognitive semantics and cognitive grammar. Since our field of study is conceptual features that accumulate in ear related phrases, we need to define the important concepts (mainly metaphor, metonymy) which are considered as processors in terms of cognitive semantics. It is accepted that system of thought of individuals is the metaphorical, the conceptual structure is organized as mappings or associations between conceptual domains. In other words, the human mind defines by associating concepts with each other. The vast majority of said mappings are based on pre - conceptual body experiences. Conceptual metonymy is a conceptual process that is designed to identify an entity (vehicle) with another entity (target) associated with it. The metonym represents the conceptual relationship that X represents Y, while the metaphor Y can be understood in terms of X. Another important difference between metonymy and metaphor is: Metaphor include inter-domain mappings, metonymy include mappings within a single domain or domain matrix.

Why is it important?

Our findings have shown us that the function of the name of the ear organ, its shape and structure is usually focused on its external structure and function. We think that in various metaphorical samples, there are more instances of marking abstract fields such as attention, knowledge and thought. The name of the ear organ has made methonymic markings as the name of the organ that performs the hearing function, and at the same time it gives evidence for the interaction between the metaphor and the metonym.
