What is it about?
The tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily, member 4 (OX40) and its ligand (OX40L) are members of the tumor necrosis factor superfamily and play roles as costimulatory immunomodulators to combat infectious diseases as well as cancers. Presently, many therapeutic agents focused on OX40 and OX40L are in trials for antitumor efficacy. we consider serum OX40 levels can be helpful in rationalizing the prescription of such drugs in patients with oral cancer. In this study, high OX40 levels were associated with advanced-stage disease and a poor prognosis, possibly reflecting the immune-exhausted status against Oral squamous cell carcinoma

Why is it important?
Immune therapy is an emerging area in treatment of cancer but with hefty cost , favorable results in minority of patients as well as with side effects of boosting autoimmunity. There has to be ways that are cheaper and non invasive that can rationalize prescription of such drugs in cancer patients .
Perspectives
In my opinion, the exploration of new immunotherapeutic agents and trials is a hasty step and costly too . The basic level knowledge of immune modulators expression levels and their interactions in different cancers is still lacking.
