What is it about?

There are many ways that young people become ill during adolescence and just as many reasons why this happens. Once upon a time, there were five young people who found themselves in Ashlands Adolescent Unit. This book uses their stories to explore the experience of being in an adolescent unit. A developing sense of identity, increasing social responsibilities and a realization that the world they share is not a fairy tale kingdom makes some young people want to retreat back into the comforts and safety of childhood, while for others, it offers many new opportunities for experiment, risk-taking and discovery.
