Why is it important?
It is vital that practitioners have the mind set to assess the right vein right vascular access device at the right time to preserve veins. By reading this article the practitioner has an awareness of aids to vein location and the Vessel Health and Preservation Framework to enable development and change in practices related to vascular access.
Perspectives
My motivation for writing this article was to increase awareness of how vein location and vascular access is developing. To provide practitioners with the information to motivate them to research what products and practices are available that may suit their patient group. To promote the idea of vein preservation and that practitioners need a tool box of aids, advice and vascular access devices to assist with improving vascular access, patient experience and timely completion of IV therapy.
