Why is it important?

This article provides an easy to read explanation of the risks of IV access, different vascular access devices, how veins can be preserved, factors to consider when selecting the most appropriate VAD for each individual patient. To demonstrate that it is vital to assess the patients vascular access needs and not simply get a cannula in, it is vital to preserve veins, keep the patient safe, facilitate effective IV access and treatment. This is a CPD article so can be used as part of revalidation for nurses and midwives

Perspectives

I just want healthcare professionals to be aware of the Vessel Health and Preservation Framework, be aware of the vast array of vascular access devices available, provide knowledge to enable practitioners to develop the use of the VHP Framework to support practitioners new to vascular access, provide clear guidance on who to contact to assist with vascular access within their clinical areas. To demonstrate that it is vital to preserve veins and provide the right vascular access device, in the right vein at the right time.
