Why is it important?

Epilepsy affects one in five people with learning disabilities, and staff and carers in community settings need to feel confident about supporting them. This guidance was developed to enable services to identify and assess risks associated with caring for people with epilepsy alongside enabling the person with learning disabilities to be included in the assessment process.

Perspectives

Following repeated requests from care homes and carers this guidance was developed to enable services to be able to identify areas of risk associated with epilepsy and can be conducted with the person with a learning disability to ensure that their needs are met.
