Why is it important?

Demonstrated that WNV circulated in wild birds from northern and southern Mexico during the 2008-2009 season, providing further information about the presence of WNV in Mexico.

Perspectives

West Nile virus is important in the health of birds in Mexico. This virus can infect crocodiles, horses and other species, it can eventually cause encephalitis in humans.
