What is it about?
Normal values for multiple parameters from the blood and plasma of four Masai ostriches (Struthio camelus) when juveniles at 5 months of age and as adults 1 year later in the Barcelona Zoo (Spain) were measured. Young ostriches had significantly lower hematocrit, hemoglobin concentration, and calcium, and magnesium plasma levels, and higher total protein and potassium levels, than the adult individuals. The rest of the parameters were not significantly different between the two age conditions. Our data provided reference values for Masai ostriches.
