What is it about?

This study examined the effects of FHP on neck and ankle joint position sense, and compared the joint position sense between the right and left ankles

Why is it important?

The findings of the study may help physical therapists to include ankle joints and neck proprioception training in the postural realignment programs for subjects suffering from FHP to prevent further compensatory posture misalignment. Because the study showed the effect of FHP on the ankle, podiatrists should seek the help of spine specialists and physical therapists to provide the ideal treatment for such cases.

Perspectives

Forward head posture (FHP) decreases the neck position sense and creates tension in the neck muscles, which inversely affects the mechanics of the distal joints through body myofascia. It has been hypothesized that the FHP can affect the neck and ankle joint position sense, and the FHP can produce a symmetric effect on the joint position sense of the right and left ankles.
