Why is it important?
The role of soil micro-organisms such as mycorrhizal fungi has been demonstrated in the development of sustainable agriculture. Mycorrhizae are symbiotic associations between plant roots and mycelial filaments of soil fungi which favor plant growth and development. The identification of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi naturally associated with pumpkins is a prerequisite for the development of biofertilizers to increase its yield.
