What is it about?

This publication is devoted to numerical modeling of damage accumulation, strain localization and crack formation. The unified constitutive equations and finite element method are used to calculate crack appearance and development in extended elastic plastic plates with elliptic holes and rigid inclusions. Calculated results indicated that integral stress-strain diagrams are practically independent on finite element grid parameters.

Why is it important?

Publication contains information about simple approach to modeling of damage processes in elastic plastic bodies that satisfies the Hadamard's criterion of stability for initial boundary value problems.

Perspectives

The discussed approach is easy to implement for theoretical predictions of integral parameters of damage processes in general three-dimensional cases. It is helpful for engineering practice.
