What is it about?

Problems and possibilities of reconciling professional and private life of the contemporary man Purpose: The article undertakes the problem of reconciling professional and private life, which seems to be particularly important in today – busy world. It turns out that more and more people devote too much time to work, which in turn affects adversely their family life. Therefore, the author attempts to identify directions and methods of changes, oriented on reconciling professional and personal life. Design/methodology/approach: The starting point for discussion are results of surveys conducted by Polish and international organizations, which are complemented with the results of survey conducted among participants of the conference and focus group discussions. The author shows the importance of the problem of reconciling work and private life and its impact on functioning of the contemporary man. Findings: It seems that nowadays individuals can’t maintain the symbiosis between work and private life, and what’s more, they are not aware of this. In consequence, no action is taken to reduce negative effects of the discordance. This indicates an importance of developing appropriate guidelines. Research limitations/implications: The focus group discussions bring to the following conclusions: - need of making contemporary man realize of an importance of maintaining balance between work and private life; - different groups of stakeholders and new technologies have impact on the work-life balance. Originality/value: Shaping the symbiosis between work and private life requires a comprehensive approach to the problem and cooperation of all stakeholders in this process. Therefore, it seems important to continue research and analyses on harmonizing different spheres of human life and possible fast implementation of these proposals into practice.
