What is it about?

We propose a systematic way to find out why a grammatical norm is not applied: is the rule not clear? Is it not well explained? Does it cause negative reactions by learners? Is it incompatible wuth some learner's linguistic competence?

Why is it important?

Not applying grammatical norms has crucial consequences for speakers: failing exams at school, not getting a job or a promotion, being disctiminated, etc. A lot of money is spent for elaborating grammars and spellings, so there is an ethic need for evaluating them.

Perspectives

I hope this article opens a discussion about evaluating language standardisation as a crucial social issue.
