What is it about?

Thiopyrano[2,3-d]thiazoles are cyclic isosteric mimetics of their synthetic precursors 5-arylidene-4-thiazolidinones without their typical negative features such Michael acceptors that are useless in the modern drug discovery process because of their low selectivity.

Why is it important?

Our findings show that the synthesized compounds exhibited good anti-inflammatory activity compared with diclofenac sodium and ketorolac. Some of the compounds showed moderate antioxidant activity.

Perspectives

Heterocyclic compounds hold a special place among pharmaceutically active products, and the development of simple and efficient synthesis of compounds incorporating heterocyclic rings has given a new dimension to the drug discovery.
