The research article “Isolation and Enumeration of Alkali Resistant Rhizobacterium from Alkali Soil of Ayodhya Region, Uttar Pradesh” investigates the diversity and abundance of beneficial bacteria living in the rhizosphere—the narrow region of soil surrounding plant roots—in alkaline soils of the Ayodhya region. Approximately 95 bacterial isolates were obtained, representing 27 bacterial genera and 44 species, with nearly 74% of the isolates successfully identified. The results showed that Gram-negative bacteria were more abundant than Gram-positive bacteria, indicating their superior adaptation to alkaline soil conditions. Bacterial populations also varied among the sampling sites, reflecting differences in local soil characteristics and environmental conditions. The article highlights the agricultural significance of these alkali-resistant rhizobacteria. Many of these microorganisms function as plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) by fixing atmospheric nitrogen, solubilizing insoluble phosphate, producing phytohormones such as indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), and enhancing nutrient uptake under alkaline conditions. These beneficial traits can improve plant growth, restore degraded soils, and reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers. Overall, the study concludes that the isolated rhizobacteria represent a valuable microbial resource for developing biofertilizers and sustainable soil management strategies. The authors recommend further molecular characterization, greenhouse experiments, and field trials to evaluate their practical applications in agriculture and alkali soil reclamation.
