Why is it important?

Rigorous systematic review was applied to retrieve relevant articles, grouped in sections on the reliability and validity of the Beck Depression Inventory - II for use in medical settings. Existing evidence of scientific soundness of the BDI-II for different medical patients was synthesized in this article.

Perspectives

After reviewing 822 articles on the use of Beck Depression Inventory - II, we included 70 psychometric investigations in this article, covering different clinics of cardiology, neurology, obstetrics, brain injury, nephrology, chronic pain, chronic fatigue, oncology, and infectious disease. Therefore, the BDI-II is a reliable, valid and useful tool for the assessment of depression among medical patients.
