What is it about?

This essay tends to explore the relation between time, existence, and the religious experience of time in David Mamet's Faustus from a Judaic perspective.

Why is it important?

This is a complex play by this American playwright. Usually the critics have paid attention to the role of family in this play; or they have considered it as a contemporization of Christopher's Marlowe's play, Dr Faustus. I have tried to highlight those aspects which have received little or no attention.

Perspectives

I hope my essay provides some basis for further exploration of not only Mamet's other works but also the very concept of time, religious time, and the return of time in literature.
