What is it about?

In 1986, some Cubans psychologists began to develop The State-Trait Depression Inventory (Inventario de Depresión Rasgo-Estado-IDERE) inspired in the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (Spielberger, Gorsuch, Lushene, Vagg, & Jacobs, 1983) In more than 30 years, we developed different studies about the validity, and IDERE was used in different Latin American countries. In this article, we researched its validity in almost 2000 participants of Mexico, Colombia, Spain, and Cuba.

Why is it important?

This article can help to psychologist that are using IDERE. We offer a new and valid scale to researchers and clinicians interested in assessing depression as a state and trait.

Perspectives

Many years later, Spielberger and other eminent psychologists developed the State-Trait Depression questionnaire (ST-DEP), that it was validated in the Spanish language in different countries. Although the similarities in the names, both tests are quite different in his structure and his composition, and in his theoretical fundaments too, so we are interested to compare both because we hope that the collaboration may improve the diagnosis and definition of depression.
