This study examined how social scientists search and use information in the course of their research.

Why is it important?
It reports the sociologists' use of information resources and channels to address their research inquiries, their strategies for finding information, and the difficulties they encountered in information seeking. As a result, the study developed a model of the different stages of sense-making and information-seeking process of sociologists.
