What is it about?
This article demonstrated the methods on how a human immortalised corneal epithelial cell line showed similar characteristics to primary limbal stem cells.

Why is it important?
Understanding more about the immunobiology of limbal stem cells is important to improve the outcome of cellular transplantation. However, the human tissue needed as a supply of limbal stem cells for this research is not readily available. As an alternative, a human telomerase‐immortalized corneal epithelial cell line is demonstrated to be useful for this purpose.
