What is it about?

This publication identifies and discusses a set of factors that affect the academic performance of undergraduate students in public universities across Ghana. It shows that a number of attitudinal, behavioural, and demographic factors are associated with good or poor performance among university students in the country.

Why is it important?

This study is original in that it is about the first study in Ghana that pays attention to the question of what factors influence academic performance of undergraduate students. The study has systematically outlined some of these factors for the attention of university administrators, parents, and policy makers.

Perspectives

I think that the findings outlined in the paper are useful for universities' decisions regarding student accommodations, class attendance, use of library resources, and instructional designs. The findings also educate students and their families about what personal level attitudes and behaviours have beneficial effects on academic performance.
