What is it about?

Banana is a fruit consumed world over. The beauty about this fruit is that it is accepted by all ages. There are over 1000 cultivars of the fruit and some localities can have as much as 10, been eaten at the same time. The essence of this study was to look at eight varieties consumed in Ede, Osun State, Nigeria. The study found out, though the same fruit, each cultivar had unique strengths and weaknesses in terms of nutritional composition. Some cultivars were recommended for diabetics, due to their low sugar content and high fibre content etc.

Why is it important?

The information on this manuscript is important, as it give a broader view of the banana fruit, highlighting its benefits. One interesting fact about this paper is that it compared both peel and pulp. The findings in the study revealed almost the same nutritional composition between what is considered as fruit and edible (Pulp) and what is considered inedible and as waste (peel).

Perspectives

Its my pleasure to inform people about banana from the scientific point of view. Please consume the fruit and if possible find more usage for the peel.
