Why is it important?

The study of pollen dispersal and mode of fertilization of Vernonia amygdalina and Vernonia calvoana is a prerequisite to the understanding of genetic diversity and elaboration of improvement programs for the Vernonia genus.

Perspectives

Information obtained on the mode of pollen dispersal and fertilization in Vernonia spp. could be exploited for genetic improvement of this important plant. It could also help to understand the genetic diversity within the genus and the preponderant role of insects in the preservation of biodiversity.
