What is it about?

According to Augustine, every human act of knowing happens because a divine act of illumination takes place. The article seeks to demonstrate that, in fact, for Augustine, illumination is a joint act, made possible by the relation of the human intellect with the divine light it receives.

Why is it important?

This is a new way to understand Augustine’s theory of knowledge, which bases it in the divine-human relationship and an understanding of God as the being-for-others – the being that is also for the other, by way of this relationship, which makes possible for the other the being, the willing and the knowing.
