What is it about?

Coronary artery disease (CAD) is prevalent but very difficult to diagnose in hemodialysis (HD) patients. In this cross-sectional study silent and undiagnosed ischemic heart disease in hemodialysis patients using dipyradamol myocardial imaging. Patients with diabetes mellitus , HTN, positivie family history of CAD, LHV, high levels of parathormone, low ferritin, and echocardiographic abnormalities were most likely to suffer from IHD.

Why is it important?

Regarding the considerable prevalence of silent IHD in hemodialysis patients, it is suggested to assess IHD in HD patients (esp high risk patients

Perspectives

CAD being the most common cause of mortality worldwide, should be more considered in high risk patients such as HD patients which suffer from multiple risk factors, and required preventive measures should be added to routine care of these patients to reduce cardiac events as their cardiac involvement is silent.
