What is it about?

This work presents promising results from a practical experience of using the Arduino platform and visual programming in a class of repeating students in the Algorithms and Programming Logic course during the first semester of the Bachelor's degree in Information Systems at UFRN.

Why is it important?

A considerable portion of incoming students in higher education programs in the field of Information Technology faces difficulties in the programming courses during the first semesters, and some of these students end up failing. If such courses do not employ alternative teaching methodologies that encourage and aid in student recovery, demotivation can lead to further failures in subsequent semesters, consequently contributing to an increase in dropout rates.

Perspectives

Our intention in writing this article was to discuss motivational strategies that enable repeating students in introductory courses of information technology programs to maintain their interest in the course, thus avoiding dropout. We hope to stimulate discussions that allow for result comparisons and facilitate the exchange of experiences.
