What is it about?

Therefore, the goal is to observe how new technologies have influenced in the reading process. So, the factors that determine these new tendencies and reading models, as well as the current situation of digital reading in Spain are shown. For this reason, the news about this topic included in the newspapers: Abc, El País and El Mundo in 2012 -relevant period for digital reading –. To retrieve them the press database Factiva is used. For the texts’ bibliographic description, indexing and classification Ref Works is operated. The frequency of the key terms related to reading habits will be analyzed in the abovementioned sample, a corpus containing 124 news stories. Wordsmith will be the software used to find the key terms, whereas Tropes will enable to categorize the most relevant concepts. Finally, the results are analyzed and compared with the results from the AIMC surveys, FGEE in order to obtain accurate conclusions.

Why is it important?

This article tries to provide information about the reading habits in Spain from a different point of view of the one included in Federación del Gremio de Editores en España. As this one studies the public discourses about reading in the most relevant newspapers, while the FGE deals with the private discourses.

Perspectives

It's part of the project “Estudio de la lectura en discursos legislativos y medios de comunicación social en la Península Ibérica (1999-2012)” developed thanks to the scholarship 'Becas Iberoamérica de Jóvenes Profesores Investigadores' of Banco Santander during an international stay at the University of Aveiro (Portugal) in 2014. So, it's a continuation of the project done in the Ph.D. thesis. Later on, it will be amplified to a wider scope, (Iberian Peninsula) in order to be able to contrast both countries.
