Why is it important?

Finding ways in which to help students make ethical decisions in a world where an increasing perception of unethical behavior exists is important. Pre- and post-tests depicting unethical situations were administered to students before and after taking an ethics class. The findings suggest, in the short term, the intervention of an ethics class helped students make better ethical decisions.

Perspectives

This study was conducted over the course of two years and was administered to students taking an online upper level undergraduate course entitled, "Ethical Dilemmas in the Workplace." The pre/post tests required students to write narrative responses to unethical situations presented in nine vignettes. Axial coding resulted in themes and patterns which suggested the course did make a different in the decisions students made about the situations.
