What is it about?

This study aims to determine whether the rate of RT-PCR detection of Dengue virus in clinical plasma differs between RNA extracts from QIAamp® Viral RNA and TRIzol® LS in the first week of Dengue infection.

Why is it important?

These results suggest that RNA extraction using QIAamp® Viral RNA provides more sufficiently pure RNA template for a conventional RT-PCR than TRIzol® LS.

Perspectives

This study was patterned after an approach useful in a clinical setting, in which the specimen is obtained from the patient prior to their hospital admission.
