What is it about?

After demonstrating that manufacturing management applications are ill-conceived in managing academic professionals, this paper proceeds to the real dilemma in academic administration: control vs. autonomy. A solution to the dilemma of balancing administrative control and academic freedom is proposed followed by a discussion of some possible exceptions.
