What is it about?

This is a comment on supposed phlebotonic action of some flavonoids. Among reported effects, improvement of subjective symptoms (leg heaviness, pain, quality of life) often prevails, which is compatible with a placebo effect. Mechanisms of the venoactive efficiency are hardly comprehensible theoretically. The phlebotonic effect without considerable impact on arterial smooth muscles and blood pressure seems to be improbable. Verification in large-scale experiments, using measurable indices, is needed. Supplementation of flavonoids as drugs or nutritional supplements vs. enhanced consumption of citrus fruit is discussed.
