Why is it important?
Ampicillin is active against gram-negative and gram-positive organisms. Ampicillin is a β-lactam antibiotic and β-lactam ring is destroyed by β-lactamases thus ampicillin is co-formulated with sulbactam an inhibitor of β-lactamases.
