What is it about?

This research presents an analysis of the pericope of 2 Thessalonians 2 from the perspective of the linguistic phenomenon of deixis. And, in doing so, the theory of enunciation will be taken as a theoretical contribution, in order to highlight a small body of words that link the encoder to the enunciation situation.

Why is it important?

The asymmetry of the act of enunciation is recognized and, therefore, the interpreter's need to reconstruct its meaning from indications present in the enunciation. In the case of the epistolary text, the presence of the deictic device is essential, since the communica-tion situation lacks anchorage. Thus, the objective of this work is to identify the enunciative coordinates of the author (enunciator).

Perspectives

In communication established as a distance dialogue, as occurs in the epistolary text, the writer can stage a dialogue between the “I” and the “you”, and make references to friendships, meetings, distance in time and space. Through these indications, a vivid picture of both people involved in the virtual dialogue can be seen. These references require some form of deictic anchoring. Deixis, therefore, reveals the phenomenon that attests to the dependence of verbal language on the situational context in which it is used: “the speaking subject cannot separate himself from a ‘here’ and a ‘now’ that move with him every time he says ‘I’. Understanding how this mechanism works in epistolary discourse is essential, since in this literary genre, the author and recipients do not occupy the same space, and, therefore, reference to the situational context becomes necessary. This work will focus on describing the enunciative instances present in the epistolary discourse of 2 Thessalonians 2.
