What is it about?

After pointing out the strange similarities between the birth narratives of Jesus Christ in the Gospel of Luke and of Lord Lao in a medieval Daoist text, "The Conversion of the Barbarians," this chapter attempts to draw some fruit from the comparison for a new approach to Christology. How can we read Jesus in Luke anew after encountering Daoism?

Why is it important?

This is one of a collection of essays published as __Comparing Faithfully: Insights for Systematic Theological Reflection__. The essays address critical issues in systematic theology: divinity, theodicy, humanity, christology, and soteriology. The volume has been well received and is a common textbook in upper division, undergraduate and graduate courses.

Perspectives

I very much enjoyed working with this diverse group of scholars. We had the opportunity to meet and reflect on each others' work in a conference sponsored by the editor, Michelle Voss Roberts, and Wake Forest University.
