What is it about?

For many years, syphilis testing was done by a labor-intensive technique called RPR testing. This method was not sensitive for early infections and could also miss people who had untreated latent infections. Recently newer technologies that measure the antibodies produced in the body to combat syphilis have been widely used. In order to assure the most accurate results, laboratories often combine these methods. This review article discusses ways that these tests are used and the effectiveness of common approaches.
