Why is it important?

There is a dearth of research on motorcycle drive tourism as well as the drivers that affect this market. This article examines the economic value of the motorcycle tourism market to rural communities.

Perspectives

I have had a lifelong passion for motorcycling. I was surprised at the lack of research and the preconceptions about this market. The demographics of this market and the size of the market may be discounted by many researchers. However, I have found that rural destinations can appeal to this market and increase their tourism value. The drivers of motorcycle tourism are somewhat different than for other types of tourism and that may be explained by the dynamic interaction leisure model.
