What is it about?

Father Edmund Burke, a stocky Irish priest, was appointed by the British governor of Canada to be pastor of St. Anthony's parish on the River Raisin in Michigan Territory in 1794. He worked to quell French dissidents and priests who favored the American government against the British government of Canada. Burke was the target of asasination plots by French Canadians and General Anthony Wayne of the Ameerican army.

Why is it important?

The transfer of the Old Northwest Territory from British to American control after the Revolutionary War may have been delayed, if Burke had succeeded in his spy mission.

Perspectives

I believe this article demonstrates how individuals of radically different political positions and views can unite in a common purpose setting aside their differences.
