What is it about?
Electromechanical delay (EMD) is a substantial component of athletic performance as it is potent in reactive time and power production. This study applied a novel EMD measurement method during flatwater kayak stroke since stroke rate (number of strokes per minute, tempo), which may be increased by lower EMD, is a major parameter in boat speed in flatwater kayaking.

Why is it important?
EMD time plays an important role in athletic performance. The present study aimed to develop an EMD measurement system based on the integration of EMG and accelerometer. The main limitation of the study was the limited number of subjects. Hereby, measures of centrality and spread were calculated by treating every kayak stroke as a sample. With the use of the simple method we offer, EMD for various sports and movement patterns may be investigated.
