What is it about?

We prospectively studied 66 hospitalised patients with COVID-19 and measured platelet count, platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio and lymphocyte count during admission. Lower platelet counts and higher platelet-to-lymphocyte ratios were linked with more severe disease, while the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio was significantly associated with mortality.

Why is it important?

These measurements come from routine blood counts and are widely available. If confirmed in larger studies, they could provide low-cost support for identifying patients at greater risk, prioritising monitoring and guiding early clinical assessment.

Perspectives

From my perspective, this work matters because These measurements come from routine blood counts and are widely available. I hope the findings support further research and informed, evidence-based decisions.
