What is it about?

The aimof this investigation was to describe breastfeeding experiences of women users theUnified Health System(SUS) in a municipality of the metropolitan region of Curitiba, Brazil.

Why is it important?

The narratives showed that breastfeeding is an activity whichinvolves singular factors as well as social, cultural andhistorical aspects, andthat theinterviewees are used to demanding the healthcare services for medical assistance as well asaskingfor helptofamilymembersandclosefriends’ advice.

Perspectives

Their narratives revealed experiences of a bodythat assumes a sociallyconstructedrole andreinforcedthat the life context shouldbeconsidered in the approach of breastfeeding so as not to reinforce in women the weight ofsocial responsibility, which is often highlighted in the biomedical discourse.
