What is it about?

The methods and techniques used in this paper to create bibliometric indicators of the field of Social Skills in Psychology can be used for any other research fields and areas of knowledge. It includes analysis of available bibliographic metadata in technological scientific literature databases, inserted into a database or a spreadsheet. Data can be filtered, grouped, and crossed to obtain the indicators presenting an overview of that field or area of expertise.

Why is it important?

Bibliometric indicators can provide an overview of a research field that allows to understand the past, present and future of the field. These indicators enable see if there are gaps in research; if there is research that should be developed, but are not being; if there are topics that could have greater emphasis; if there are many topics studied, but that could have less emphasis; which development trends that field. This helps the researcher and the teacher to decide to opt for more consistent paths of research with reality and the context of application of the research field. Hence the importance of a study like this.
