What is it about?

Spaceborne sensors like the CloudSat Radar and Cloud-Aerosol LiDAR with Orthogonal Polarization (CALIOP) can retrieve optical properties of particles suspended in the atmosphere. We use a combined-sensor approach to assess the variability of the optical properties of a particular type of particle called sea spray over the world's oceans. This particle is important as it serves as a reference for the radiative forcing potential of the atmosphere before the modification of atmospheric composition from human industrial activity.
