What is it about?
Our findings provide evidence for Asian patients that support the efficacy of the strict antihypertensive treatment with BP targets proposed by the 2018 ESC hypertension guidelines for the prevention of cardiovascular events. The strict antihypertensive treatment was defined as BP targets of 120-130/70-80 mm Hg for 18-to 65-year-old adults, or 130-140/70-80 mm Hg for elderly patients over 65 years (according to the European Society of Cardiology 2018).

Why is it important?
The unique features of hypertension in the Asian population suggest that physicians should not blindly follow Western guidelines in clinical practice. As far as we know, this is the first meta-analysis that was entirely dedicated to exploring favorable BP targets in Asian patients with hypertension.
Perspectives
I hope to update the meta-analysis as soon as new evidence come.
