What is it about?
This commentary on what makes humans different points out that not only have we under-estimated other living things, but we have over-estimated ourselves. The only way to understand mass human behaviour is to see that it is instinctive, and not rational. A variety of examples are given to illustrate this point.

Why is it important?
With talk of the use of nuclear weapons accompanying the current war in the Ukraine, it is more important than ever to acknowledge human behaviour as it actually is, and to start using rational thought and wisdom instead of instinct, especially the territorial instinct for power, revenge, and material gain.
Perspectives
The only way that humanity will rise above the fate that otherwise awaits over-aggressive and over-populated species is to understand its own true nature and act accordingly. This paper puts our situation in perspective.
