What is it about?
This paper presents the main activities, simulations and testing of railway dynamics performance assessment. The main tasks and related methods and tools used on railway engineering simulations are described and discussed, enriched with some examples of how models and simulations are used for the design optimization. The standard simulations and other interdisciplinary co-simulations are described and applied models and examples are discussed. The standards governing the methods for testing the vehicle dynamic behaviour assessment and train acceptance and the practical examples on analysis and return on experience on simulations and testing are briefly described as well. Finally, the model validation process and the possibilities for virtual homologation are briefly described.
