What is it about?

This is a classic study of witchcraft and ceremonial magic in Britain in the 1990s. It sets out the notion that the 'otherworld', a non-material dimension alongside everyday reality is an important component of magical practices.

Why is it important?

This book takes an experiential ethnographic approach and argues that otherworldly knowledge is an important component for understanding magic, and that our scientific frameworks need re-envisioning.

Perspectives

This book was developed from my PhD research and was based on my long-standing questions about magic. Not wanting to forego a scientific perspective, I wanted to integrate scientific knowledge with an experience of magic, and argue that magic constitutes a different but legitimate form of knowledge.
