What is it about?

It is likely that dictionaries are still a part of our future for some time, but the trend is that print dictionaries are being replaced by e-dictionaries. Future dictionaries should be information tools that satifsy the needs of users in specific situations arising in real-life situations and dictionaries should be function-based in order to provide specific answers to specific questions.

Why is it important?

This paper shows that it is possible to future-prrof Lexicographic tools, i.e. dictionaries, if user needs are taken into consideration when planning and making dictionaries. It is suggested that dictionaries will become personal assisttants to users rather than independent and unpersonalised tools.
