What is it about?
Jesus mission to bring good news to the poor is well known, but it was not just what he did that mattered, it was HOW it was carried out. He carried out his mission as God's faithful shepherd king who sought out and saved the lost sheep. For the Lukan Jesus not one sheep was to be left on the hillside - all were to be gathered in.

Why is it important?
We often think about Jesus' mission today and attempt as best as we can to carry that out. But we need to realise that it is not just what we do that matters - it is how we do this mission. Luke's Jesus focuses his mission on people society looked down or or had effectively discarded or ignored. He was gritty, honest, and at times rude where insiders are challenged to carry out God's mission in God's ways. It is this Jesus who inspires me.
